Signs of Poor Liver Function & Ways to Improve It

The liver is the most important organ of metabolism in the body and your overall health and vitality is determined to a large extent by how healthy your liver function is.


If your liver isn’t healthy, you won’t be either.


The liver needs to break down hormones, antibodies, chemicals from food and packaging, prescription drugs, pesticides, alcohol, bacteria, toxic metals and a whole range of other things that we’re exposed to every single day. You can only imagine the load placed on our liver in our modern world.


Not only that, but our diet also generally doesn’t support healthy liver function either. If the liver can’t do it’s job properly or can’t deal with the sheer amount of detoxification that’s required, symptoms and disease will be the result.


Here are some of the signs of poor liver function:

  • Nausea

  • Fat intolerance

  • Constipation

  • Flatulence

  • Skin issues like eczema, psoriasis or milia

  • PMS

  • Anger

  • Headaches

  • Bad breath

  • Food intolerances

  • Medication intolerances

  • Dark circles under the eyes


All of these things are generally treated as individual problems with no attention whatsoever given to the cause.     • 1-2 cups per day of cruciferous vegetables eg. broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, kale, bok choy, cabbage.

    • Schisandra Berries are one of my favourite liver herbs - the dried berries are the main ingredient in our Focus tea and it's a great idea to eat the berries once you've finished your tea for to provide even more support for the liver.

    • Add turmeric to your diet several times a week.
